Music teaching material: Repertoire
Anna Artobolevskaya's"Первая встреча с музикой" ("First encounter with music") is
a great pianobook for beginners. The repertoire featured is appealing (it includes pieces
by Mozart, Prokofiev, Tchaïkovsky, etc.) and so are the illustrations. It is well designed
and the latest edition features student artwork (which always surprises my own students;
most books designed for children do not usually include drawings made by young people
or, when they do, they are not used to replace professional illustrations, which is the case
in Mrs. Artobolevskaya's book).
I use it as my "beginner repertoire book", and combine it with a
more technical piano method.

Music teaching material: Piano Methods
Maurice Ravel's friend, the well-known pianist Marguerite Long,
designed her own piano method. It is well-structured and adapted
to 7-10 year-old beginners. It includes four-hands easy pieces,
technical studies, and a variety of pieces by French composers.
Although this method seems expensive(around $30), it is not the
case: it requires approximately 2 years to go through, while cheaper
methods are usually completed in a few months (after which parents
have to buy "Volume 2" and "Volume 3"). However, I would only
recommend it to students willing to practice everyday,
for its level of difficulty is rather high.

Plans for the future
I will apply for the ARCT in piano pedagogy at the Royal Conservatory of Toronto; next summer. Until then, I will be taking masterclasses at the Conservatory.
