Material for ESL learners and teachers
ChickaDeeChickaDee is a fun magazine for elementary school students. Although it is originally designed for English native speakers, some of the activities might still be used in an ESL classroom. http://owlkids.com/chickaDEE/funpage.html FriendsYounger learners will definitely enjoy the colourful and attractive design, fun and easy activities featured in this magazine. Clifford, Scooby-Doo and Fiona the Dragon will tell them stories, help them review their numbers, write words and draw !
I discovered this magazine when doing the Explore program in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This magazine is not available online, but you may suscribe here: http://www.magazine-agent.com/preschool-playroom/magazine ESL flashcardsI would recommend ESLflashcards to ESL elementary school teachers. It is a free website, where you may download a variety of flashcards in many different formats, depending on whether you want to print them for your students, or if you are looking for some pictures to display on your classroom's walls. http://www.eslflashcards.com/ |
Merriam Webster.s Essential Learner's Dictionary - for Secondary ESL studentsThe Merriam Webster's learner dictionary is a great tool for both students and teachers.
Its online version is completely free, and provides easy word definitions, synonyms, an- tonyms, as well as many ESL exercises on different topics. I also like the fact that students may hear the pronunciation of the words by clicking on them, instead of having to read their phonetic transcription. http://www.learnersdictionary.com/ Yes Mag - Seecondary, cycle 1Yes Mag is a very interesting Canadian science magazine for teenagers. It includes interesting facts, articles are short yet complete, and the layout is attractive without being "childish". Teachers may find useful material for Learning and Evaluation Situations.
